Bon Appetit!

In 2006, a referendum passed to give 0,25$ per student to the SFUO’s Bon Appétit! food bank

Do you agree to contribute 0,75$ more per full-time student and 0,25$ more per part-time student per semester in order for the Bon Appetit! Food Bank to be funded to fulfill its mandate?

The “Vote YES” referendum committee’s platform:

What is Bon Appétit!’s mandate? Bon Appétit! is the SFUO’s food bank implemented to fight food insecurity in our University community.

The extra funds will allow Bon Appétit! to ensure better service to the entire student population in several ways, such as hiring a third part-time employee. This new employee will help organize events that raise awareness about food security among the student population and run successful food drives on campus. He/she will also help spread the increasing workload between the employees.

Bon Appétit! has been growing since its opening in September 2006. The number of users of Bon Appetit!’s services has doubled, even tripled, during certain periods of the year. It has become very difficult to accomplish all that is expected of the food bank, and all that the food bank wishes to provide for students with only two part-time employees.

Raising the student contribution to Bon Appétit! will also allow the food bank to create an emergency fund to fill our shelves if donations are insufficient. This will guarantee that the people who come to Bon Appétit! will always receive their full portion with high nutritional value.

As long as less money is spent on things suich as a “Hunger Awareness Day” and more money on actually feeding students and collecting donations and food!
