Leave a comment, win 200$

50englishIt really is that easy. All you need to do, to win $200, is leave a comment (with your real email address) with what you believe the voter turn-out will be. The person that comes closest (up to the decimal) will win $200.

Just to give people a general idea of what they can expect, here are recent voter turn-outs at the University of Ottawa:

2006: 18,8%
2007: 14,4%
2008: 12,2%
2008 (by-election): 3%
CFS Referendum 2008: 22%

Our initial objective was 30%. That being said, we raised our objective to 50.4%.

Anyone can participate. You have until 9PM on Thursday to make your prediction. Don’t forget, you need to put a decimal.

So come on. Leave a comment. What do you have to lose?

i’m mainly skeptical of online voting because no one i’ve talked to has received their pin

51 Mike Fancie 02.10.09 at 11:56 am

Unfortunately, the system is a little “not working at the moment”. Turnout will depend on the time it takes to receive PIN numbers.

If by noon, I predict 15 %.
If not by 6pm, I predict 12 %.
If no PIN by tomorrow, 8 %.

52 Dean Haldenby 02.10.09 at 11:58 am

57 Kat B 02.10.09 at 12:25 pm

118 Logan Ouellette 02.10.09 at 7:45 pm

A lot of people seem to be hovering around the 30s, which is fair considering the push, but I think it’s important to remember that historically, regardless of it being of line or on paper, voter apathy is what reigns for a majority of students. Let’s hope I get proven wrong.

208 Rachel Gendron 02.12.09 at 9:51 am

I have a little faith in our student body.

(Student Bodies. Day in, Day out… Student Bodies!)

209 JP Lester 02.12.09 at 9:53 am

I predict 23.7%…final offer…jp lester

210 Proud Xaverian 02.12.09 at 11:24 am

If you want to be us, you better aim high. We broke our record last year, and increased it to 60.4%. Good Luck!

32.7 %

212 zeina 02.12.09 at 11:52 am

34.8%
Now where is my money?

214 Kathleen Guglielmi 02.12.09 at 1:54 pm

I’m going with 46.8% because that seems like an awesomely high number and seriously is almost with the Canadian voter turnout which would be ridiculous. Hopefully it’s even higher though….that would be awesome. Dream big!

215 Kathleen Guglielmi 02.12.09 at 1:56 pm

Actually having said that - can I change by answer to 59,1% because that was actually the voter turnout in the last fatigue ridden election in Canada and I think we should get at least that.

216 Adel Chehouri 02.12.09 at 2:26 pm

first time I tried posting a comment, the site shut-down on me
here’s another try: 34.5%

tks

217 Alison 02.12.09 at 2:39 pm

218 Angie Bird 02.12.09 at 2:46 pm

14.2%
I like the online voting, esp with the bus strike. But now there are no long line-ups everywhere to remind people, or to think, “Hey, everyone else is doing it!”

219 hilal 02.12.09 at 2:58 pm

i think 17.4 %

220 Nico 02.12.09 at 3:00 pm

224 Jane 02.12.09 at 4:33 pm

27.0%, but it would be great for this to overshoot all expectations.

225 Georges Sioufi 02.12.09 at 4:34 pm

This is my prediction: 22.26%

If everyone would be telling the truth, three quarters “already voted” or “already voted online”. The whole damn thing is online. I say about half the people we asked lied and nearly all of them are horrible liars that I cought instantly.

Pathetic.

226 Hantalkarlot Jacques 02.12.09 at 4:38 pm

My prediction is 24,2%

227 Hannah 02.12.09 at 5:05 pm

23% is what I believe the voter turn out will be…I hope this message is long enough for me to be able to submit

232 Samantha L 02.12.09 at 5:50 pm

Considering midterms, online benefits, and pre-reading week fever, I guess 31.8%

233 David 02.12.09 at 5:55 pm

How about 33.8%?

234 Husam Alsousi 02.12.09 at 6:20 pm

Ben…j’dirais autour de 26,6%

245 Micheline Leblanc 02.12.09 at 8:52 pm

I dunno. It’s hard to say. 27.1%?

246 Melinda 02.12.09 at 9:01 pm

I have been working off-campus, so I don’t know how effective e-voting has been, but I’m predicting that it’s probably less than 40, more than 20. So, I hope nobody pick this number yet, but I’m going for 30.9%.

BTW, just a side comment, I’m really glad that e-voting was introduced! :)

247 Angela T 02.12.09 at 9:06 pm

23.4% is my guess.

248 Mike Weatherhead 02.12.09 at 9:18 pm

42.35 percent. Lets go for the long shot

249 Trevor Scott Milford 02.12.09 at 9:37 pm

Because a shot at $200 is never a bad thing and I had a dream last night about winning lots of money…um… 24.4%.

250 Laura Randell 02.12.09 at 9:58 pm

i say 27.8%

251 Michael Chiarello 02.12.09 at 10:00 pm

Probably something like 39.5%

252 apple 02.12.09 at 10:26 pm

35.5% for 200 alex

253 Dayna 02.12.09 at 11:18 pm

I’m going to go with 33.9% - A lot of people came out to vote for the CFS referendum - hopefully we kept the momentum going.

254 Luc Roy 02.12.09 at 11:47 pm

:)…I heard through the grapevine that the turnout was 27.2? Can anyone confirm?!?

255 kyle arseneault 02.13.09 at 12:31 am

28.6%

and that is a guarantee

256 Georges Sioufi 02.13.09 at 7:33 am

Wow I was way off, but I see Micheline Leblanc put 27.1!!!!
